Rethink Spring Break for YOur Kids Five Worth While Activities

Spring break provides a much needed break from school during a time where the weather starts to get nice. Many children want to use this time to run around outside or take trips to the beach, but there are simple ways to make this ‘mini vacation’ educational as well. This list includes five fun, educational activities that your children will actually enjoy.

Go to the Museum
Museums may sound boring initially, but these days there is a museum for everything and many are interactive. Science museums are available in most major cities and are usually filled with fun, interactive games and attractions. A day at a science museum will not only be fun for the whole family, but it will fill both your own and your kid’s brains with new knowledge and leave everyone wanting more.

Shadow a Professional
Does your child have big dreams for what they want to be when they grow up? Spend a day or two shadowing someone in that field. Most companies are happy to allow children to come see what the real world is like for a day. It will provide insight on their future and help them learn about what things are like outside of school.

Do a Craft
Another activity that is more educational than it seems is craft making. There are millions of ideas online and you can pick crafts that are suited to your child’s age. Most crafts include measuring and math skills. If you are making something that requires a recipe, have your child double the ingredients so you know what is required for a double batch.

Plant a Garden
Planting a garden is exciting for children. You can make this educational by teaching them about the environment, how things grow, when to plant certain items, and all about the seasons. You also will need to use a ruler to measure how deep you are digging and how far apart your seeds are.

Conduct a Science Experiment
Lastly, make your own science lab at home. You can purchase science experiment kits at any children’s toy store and they are filled with crazy, fun experiments. These kits usually include things such as zoom stereo boom microscopes, which makes kids feel like they are a real scientist. Give them a notebook to write down everything they see in the microscope and how it compares to looking at objects with the naked eye. You can even take a trip to a local park or lake and find objects in nature to examine with your microscope.

Consider an educational activity this spring break to renew your child’s interest in learning!
