GET YOUR CAJUN ON!!!!!

The best to get Cajun on is Bourbon House in Scarborough, Ontario (Canada).

It was a regular Friday evening for my husband and me. We were not in a mood to cook for ourselves. So off we went hunting for food and came across this outlet near St. Clair and Midland.

The reviews on Google were good so we decided to try out the place. We entered and found that we were on wait list to be seated. The place has just about 5 tables – 1 with 4 seating arrangement and 4 with couple seating. After a wait for about 10 mins, we got our cozy nook and settled down.

Our waitress (I absolutely regret not asking her name, but I think her name is Judith) is a tremendously happy person. She came by to our table and we forgot all about the wait for the table and the uncertainty we had of the place. She is an absolute delight to talk to. I would go back there just to talk to her again. But going forward on the food…

We had already decided we would try their Piquante Shrimp with hush puppies and  Blackened Chicken [boneless chicken breast with lemon beurre, garlic mash potato and seasonal vegetables] with a side of their home fries. My husband went for a Corona and I decided on white rum (they were, unfortunately, out of spiced rum, else it would have been a perfect combination with the meal) My husband and I had no idea what to expect with this order, but Google reviews had said these were something to try out so we had gone for it. And boy, were we surprised?!

First came the house fries along with our order of drinks. The fries were crispy and delicious, but we held back on stuffing ourselves with it. We had ordered something new and we were excited about it.

Then came the star of our show – Piquante Shrimp.

Piquante Shrimp from Bourbon House

The shrimp itself was soft and well cooked, but that was not the star performer. The star performance was from the Piquante sauce, the red sauce in which the shrimp was served. It was the most delicious sauce we have ever had. It was spicy and tangy and had a rich flavor to it. The hush puppies with the sauce was just too amazing.

Our main – Blackened Chicken – was really good too. With a side of mash potatoes and grilled vegetables, the perfectly cooked and spiced chicken was a bit like Jerk Chicken but not as spicy as it. It was crispy from outside, straight out of the barbeque, and soft from inside – just the perfect combination.

We loved the food at Bourbon House so much that we packed Creole Jambalaya [A highly seasoned rice dish with chicken, smoked ham, Andouille sausage & tomato served on bayou sauce with collard green] with added shrimp and Piquante sauce. Unfortunately I did not take a pic of the dish while we were having our lunch, but it was equally wonderful. I am not a fan of ham and sausage, so those went to my husband. But the rice was seasoned to perfection, just like you would expect a West Indian dish to be and the sauces stole the show completely.

Bourbon House is a perfect local joint which you have to try if you like West Indian food. Although there is no guarantee you would find a table as soon as you enter, it is worth the wait if you decide to stay. Or you could just order for a take away, and it would be equally wonderful. The potions are perfect, the price is right and you leave the place feeling satisfied both in tummy and in wallet. They also have vegetarian and vegan options.  The menu for the place is below and I have also added the address of the joint in the description. They also do Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes, so you can choose that, too, to take care of your meals.
