I was feverishly cleaning my house at 10pm New Year’s Eve when it hit me.
If my house isn’t 100% spotless by midnight, will anyone really care?”
Nope.
I ran through my emails and found the address of a party at a new bar that a neighbor had invited me to. I pulled on a sequined top, my long jeans, a pair of heels, my favorite lipstick and this cute new jacket I just got and ran around the corner to a party at a new Brooklyn bar.
I had so much fun, I almost missed the actual countdown!
That was my “aha” moment of sorts.
My first New Year’s Resolution?
How many things/people/friends/events are we missing out on because we’re “busy”? I’ve realized that because of “all the work” I’ve got to do to go out, half the time I don’t want to be bothered. There are people I haven’t talked to in ages because I just don’t have 2 hours to spare to catch up with them. Or maybe I’m on a budget and my friends aren’t.
It’s time to rethink things.
- Simplify the wardrobe/makeup/color routine so that even the simplest of outfits can be made to look fabulous.
- Try to put in one 10 minute conversation a day catching up with a friend. Make time to actually see each other to catch up for longer.
- Invite friends over for something simple, like drinks, dessert or a movie. Even if you’re on a budget, you can do this for less than $50. (If you make everyone bring one thing, it’s even cheaper).
In other words…
Yep. That’s my other resolution. So, this year, I’m going to find ways to bring that into my own life as well as to this blog. I thank all of you who have followed me for the past couple of years, and I look forward to sharing/growing/building with you even more this year!
Love,
Savvy
