Sri Lanka’s junior golf sensation Reshan Algama shot an outstanding five under par, achieving a stunning 66 on the second day of the Gold Division in the Srixon RCGC Junior Open Golf Championship, sponsored by Srixon, held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club yesterday.
Algama, a 15-year-old golf prodigy, stroked a gross 66, making history as the first junior to achieve such a feat in the Srixon RCGC Tournament. His total score of 137 over both days has secured him the top spot on the leaderboard, marking the best performance by a junior golfer in recent Sri Lankan history.
Kumar Danushan, consistent with even par scores of 71 on both days, secured the second position with a total of 142 strokes. Kvahn Tejwani, who improved from fifth place on the first day, claimed the third spot with a gross of 73, totaling 147. Junior Open Champion Jevahn Sathasivam secured the fourth position, matching Tejwani with a total of 147, scoring 73 on the first day and 74 on the second. Yannik Kumara, with scores over par at 74 on both days, secured the fifth place with a total of 148.
In the Silver Division Under-15 category, Adithya Weerasinghe rose to the top with a gross of 76 and a total of 155. Varun Fernando, the top player on the first day, slipped to the sixth position with a gross of 86 and a total of 161. Kaiyan Johnpillai claimed the second spot with a gross of 77 and a total of 159. In the Bronze Division Under-13 category, Shenal Nimsith maintained the top spot with a total of 117 after 14 holes of play. Lavindu Premaratne secured the second position with a total of 126. Udeera Bandara moved up to the third spot, and Lithum Silva dropped to the fourth with a total of 134. In the Copper Division Under-10 category, Revaan Amarasinghe, Jaiden Herath, and Jaeden Sathasivam maintained their positions over both days in the nine-hole play. Amarasinghe scored 70, Herath scored 74, and Sathasivam scored 80.
