The  Planes of Fame airshow was my first chance to see a Thunderbolt take to the skies.  First flown in 1941, the last P-47 in active duty was retired in 1966 from the Peruvian Air Force.  All ‘G’ models, like this one, were license built by Curtiss-Wright. This one wears the markings of Col. Walker “Bud” Mahurin of the 56th Fighter Group in Europe, sho was credited with 21.5 enemy aircraft.
