August 2014

2014 was the inaugural year for the new Pike’s Peak Regional Airshow and they had two Thunderbolts take to the air as part of the show.  First flown in 1941, the last P-47 in active duty was retired in 1966 from the Peruvian Air Force.  With more than 15,600 Thunderbolts built, it is one of the most produced fighter aircraft in history. The D-model saw the first time bubble canopies appeared on this fighter.  The paint scheme “HUN HUNTER XVI” was that of Gil O. Wymond of the 57th Fighter Group, 65th Squadron.  Nikon D300 w/18-200mm.  Processing with Photomatix Pro and iPhoto.
