According to a story out today the a catering company in London English, Maharaja London paid £75,000 for domain name – maharaja.co.uk which is around $114,000 based on today’s exchange rates.
Maharaja according to the story means ‘high ruler’ or ‘king’.

According to the story there were three other companies bidding for the domain as well and the buyer is claiming that they were “prepared to pay even more if the bidding continued although it was not clear if there was an auction for the domain or three companies privately bidding at the same time, which would be highly unusual.
I checked the DomainTools.com and although the domain has an original registration date of 23-Nov-2005, but the only whois records indexed for the domain are from 2014.
