Renovated Pyongyang Sports Factory Reopens

The renovated Pyongyang Sports Apparatus Factory reopened after a ceremony on June 7 (Tuesday).  Attending the ceremony were Choe Ryong Hae (Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Vice Chairman for Workers’ and Social Organizations, Member of the WPK Political Bureau Presidium and Chairman of the State Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission), Ro Tu Chol (DPRK Vice Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Planning Commission and Member of the WPK Political Bureau), Ri Jong Mu (Minister of Physical Culture and Sports), DPRK sports officials, Korean People’s Army [KPA] construction personnel who worked on the renovation, engineers and other scientists, and managers and employees of the factory.

Choe Ryong Hae delivered a speech in which he said that the “the factory which developed under the warm care of President Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) has been rebuilt into a base for the production of sports apparatuses suited to the age of knowledge-based economy under the leadership of Marshal Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n).”  Choe noted that Jong Un “chose the site of the factory in the best place, guided its layout and sent soldier builders to undertake the project” and “was so kind as to settle issues arising in the construction.”  He called for “accelerating the construction of a sports powerhouse to carry out the important tasks set forth at the Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and thus making positive contribution to glorifying the dignity and honor of Chuch’e Korea before the world under the leadership of Kim Jong Un.”

After the speaking program and ceremony, participants toured the factory.
