The Attanagalla No. 02 Magistrate yesterday afternoon ordered to remand a suspect who had threatened to kill schoolchildren returning from tuition classes by showing a knife and robbing them of their money.

The suspect was remanded until January 2 and will be produced for an identification parade.Samith Tushan Rodrigo alias ‘Appaya’, a resident of the Nittambuwa Ochardwatta area, was remanded.

Nittambuwa Police conducted investigations and arrested the suspect in connection with several muggins of school children who were returning home after attending tuition classes in Nittambuwa city.

He robbed them of their money after brandishing a knife and threatening them.Police Sergeant Jayasuriya of Nittambuwa Police Case Operations Division who produced the suspect before the Magistrate said that on the afternoon of December 21, four school children were threatened on three occasions.

The suspect robbed money in the form of one thousand rupees, one hundred and twenty rupees and one hundred rupees and ran away.After Police statements, the suspect was ordered to be kept in remand custody for an identification parade until January 2.
