Relics of Jesus Christ

By None

Pillar ChristHere are two small reliquaries showing relics of Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of the Eternal Father and Son of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The reliquary on the right shows a fragment of the pillar (ex columna flagellationis) to which Christ was tied when He was being scourged. This is a first class relic because it was one of the instruments of Christ’s Passion.

Christ relics
The reliquary on the left shows three relics: (1) a fragment of stone from the Holy Sepulchre (ex sepulchro) where Christ was buried; (2) a fragment of the manger (ex praesepio) in which Christ was placed by the Virgin Mary when He was born; and (3) a fragment of the rock upon which Christ was laid (ex petra unctionis) when He was brought down from the Cross. These three are second class relics. Many stunning, unexpected things happened upon taking possession of both reliquaries.
