Above is a reliquary showing bone fragments (ex ossibus) of the Holy Apostles, Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Peter, aka Simon bar Jonah, was the fellow who despite all his bravado, denied knowing Jesus Christ three times during His passion. Then he ended up becoming Apostle to the Jews and the first Vicar of Christ.
Paul, aka Saul of Tarsus, was the Pharisee of Pharisees (Acts 23:6) who ruthlessly persecuted Christians until his famous conversion. Then he became Apostle to the Gentiles. Both Peter and Paul died as martyrs in Rome, Italy. The bone fragments shown above constitute first class relics and the reliquary was sealed by the Augustinians.
