Thanks to the success of two seasons of Vinland Saga, we can expect a more voluminous flow of content from Japan into Netflix. My Happy Marriage is such a Japanese Netflix Original anime series. The anime is an adaptation of a light novel series by Akumi Agitogi called “Hepburn: Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon”.
In December 2018, a manga adaptation of the novel was published. Initially the Netflix Original anime was scheduled for October 1st this year. But to the delight of anime fans, Netflix has decided to air it serially from July 5th 2023, preponing it by almost 3 months.

My Happy Marriage follows the story of Miyo Saimori, an unfortunate child of a loveless arranged marriage. When her mother dies and her father brings home her lover along with her daughter, Miyo is reduced to the stature of a servant. Over years of mistreatment, abuse, and insults, she has learned to keep her head down and obey every command without a hint of protest.
She obeys when she’s married off to a supposedly cruel military captain infamous for driving away every potential wife. Miyo gets ready for a married life that’s similar to or worse than her upbringing. Proving her apprehensions wrong, her husband Kiyoka Kudou turns out to be kind towards her and she starts a blissful and happy married life.

Kaito Ishikawa is lending his voice to the character of Kiyoka Kudou. Ishikawa is known for doing the voice of Tobio Kageyama in Haikyuu!! He also played Sakuta Azusagawa in Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. If you have been following anime for a while, you’d know that Ishikawa also did the voice of Genos in One Punch Man and Tenya Iida in My Hero Academia.
The voice of Miyo Saimori has been done by Reina Ueda. Famously, she is the voice of Kanao Tsuyuri in Demon Slayer. She has also played Reze in Chainsaw Man.
The character of Yoshito Godou has been done by Hiro Shimono. Shimono is most well known for voicing the characters of Zenitsu Agatsuma in Demon Slayer, Keima Katsuragi in The World Only God Knows, and Dabi in My Hero Academia among others.
