This summer I worked at the District Attorney's office (in Houston) and I noted a few books that I saw people reading. As I was cleaning out my binder, I came across the list and decided to share.
Buried Prey by John Sandford.
Working at the the District Attorney's office can be kind of sad (especially one with the size of Houston). You are constantly around tons of bad people doing stupid things. You'd think that people would want to read lots of light fluffy non-violent books. Well not in this case. One of the court reporters in our courtroom was constantly reading books like this one. She is a mystery/thriller lover all the way. She says this was awesome by the way.
Exposure by Therese Fowler.
This is totally my fault. I was telling one of the Assistant District Attorney's about this book and she asked to borrow it. She really loved it (You can find my review here). She also asked if she could have it. I said yes (I kind of had to) but I kind of regret that now. We also noted how relevant and realistic this book is. I'll be giving someone the opportunity to win this book during my Follower Appreciation Giveaway (Coming Soon: September 10, 2011). I will also have to get a copy for myself. Soon.
The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.
This is NOT my fault. This amazing trilogy had been circulating in our office well before I arrived. In fact, I wanted to stop after reading the first book, The Hunger Games, but was forced to continue the series because my boss kept dropping hints. I didn't want her to spoil it for me so I had to pick up Catching Fire, which I have yet to review. I'm soooo glad I did! I haven't read Mockingjay yet but I have it thanks to Scoot from see scoot read. Whoohoo! I'll be finishing this series soon. As for our office...they are already done. I'm probably the last of the people in our office to finish the series. This is kind of weird now that I think about it.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Why? I don't know. I hate this book. That is all.
The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe
One of the ADAs was reading this book because they didn't have to read it in school. She really enjoyed it. I read this book when I was younger but I'm not sure what causes someone to randomly pick it up. We readers...we can be a surprising bunch. I guess some people just like classics?
Battle Royale by Koushun Takami
I don't know a lot about this book but my boss picked this book because she heard it was similar to The Hunger Games. She says it isn't similar. I know that the version she received from the library was a manga but there is a novel version as well.
That's it. Thoughts? There's more but this post is long enough. Have you read these? Seen these? Recommended these? Any surprises on this list?
