Every year, I like to take a moment to reflect on the lessons of the past year. We are always learning and growing, and taking a moment to pause with gratitude on the lessons we’ve learned can be beneficial before we move onto something new, namely what is before us in 2026.
Here are my Top 5 Takeaways from 2025…
Everything you take in shapes you. What we read, what we listen to, how we spend our time, who we surround ourselves with—even the foods we eat—become part of who we are. The choices may seem small, but over time, they quietly define our minds, hearts, and lives. It’s important to choose wisely as we grow into who we are meant to be.
Consistency matters more than motivation. Motivation comes and goes, but showing up every day—even in small ways—creates momentum, builds habits, and ultimately moves us closer to our goals. When I get away from my daily habits—Bible in a Year and writing my novel—I feel off. I’m ready to begin 2026 by being consistent because ultimately, that leads to results.
Love is a daily choice. When we choose love over fear, over impatience, or over judgment, it shapes not only our present, but the life we’re building for the future. Love is a compass we carry with us. Praying for an open heart that guides me into all I do.
Deadlines are guideposts, not your whole story. They help us focus, yes, but they don’t define our worth or the beauty of the work we create. Progress matters far more than perfection. Having worked in extremely deadline-driven industries, I take great comfort in the fact that I set my own deadlines to produce my novels. And while I try to keep to them, I also give myself grace.
Rest is productive, not lazy. Stepping back, pausing, and giving yourself permission to recharge isn’t a detour—it’s part of the journey. Rest fuels creativity, clarity, and joy. A “to-do” list is great, but a “to-rest” list is becoming more important to me.
There’s always a little sense of melancholy as we leave an old year behind. But if we look to the New Year with hope, I think we’ll be in good shape.
XO,
Stephanie
