Reebok Yourflex Train 8.0 - Review
I’ve been hitting the pavements more this year than ever before, what do I mean, well in my goal to reach 2500 miles in 2017 I have been walking much more around town than before, rather than heading out into the countryside, more asphalt walking than mud and grass, and as such my stiff, and heavy, walking boots and shoes were wearing more than I’d like and feeling heavier on my feet than in the past, so I decided to invest in some light weight trainers for street walking.
And yes I do realize what I have just said!

Reebok Yourflex Train 8.0 – Review

I know next to nothing about trainers, I freely admit that, I haven’t known what is stylish in decades and I certainly have no idea about the latest technologies, so I decided to peruse my local Decathlon and see what they had to offer (I should be sponsored by them, I seem to buy most things from there or Go Outdoors these days).
After 20 minutes of walking up and down the aisle marked “Walking Trainers” I settled on a snazzy gray and yellow pair of Reebok Yourflex Train 8.0 trainers.

Specifications

  • Mesh in the vamp for breathability, squared mono mesh in the midfoot for extra support, moulded jersey in the heel for soft and stretchy comfort
  • Low-cut design with a high 8.5 mm heel to toe drop for a traditional ride
  • Midsole cradle for centring and stabilisation through medial and lateral movements
  • MicroWeb lacing system with integrated webbings for a streamlined look and pure function
  • Injection moulded EVA foam for cushion and comfort with strategic compression moulded carbon rubber for traction
  • Shaped nodes and horizontal and vertical flex grooves for supported movement
  • YourFlex Technology with a removable EVA sockliner (4.5 mm) for cushion and support

First Impressions

When I tried them on in the shop I was amazed at how light these shoes were, it feels like there are slippers on my feet, something I am really not used to. And the memory foam insole gives a very comfortable base to walk on. I should say here that they are snugger than I am used to, I wear a size 10 usually these are a 10 ½ but still feel tighter to my feet than my boots.

Looks

I’m not sure if I like the look or not, but then at 41, I’m not sure fashion is my thing any more, no matter what I might claim in other reviews. The bright yellow is not something I would normally pick, but sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone. You can see the images yourself, do you like them?

Longer use

I've had these shoes a while now (well a few months), and they have made pavement pounding that much more comfortable, I'd say they have been used for well over 100 miles in that time. The soles are lasting well, and barely look worn, and the memory foam insole is still really soft and spongy.
The only draw back I have found with these trainers, so far, is in the cold snaps we have had recently the wind does whip in through the light membrane, this will be great when the summer months come around, but in the cold and rain, not as fun.
It should be noted I have several pairs of shoes (Walking Boots, Walking shoes and Wellies, as well as smart shoes and other trainers for daily use) so I am not hammering these constantly, which will no doubt help them stay in good shape.

Price

These shoes were cheap in comparison to what I was expecting to pay, coming in at a little over £20 if they didn’t work out or don’t last long I won’t be that out of pocket, but I guess as with much time will tell how good that value actually is.

Negatives

So far I haven't really found many negatives, the lightweight breathable membrane is cold in cooler periods, but that isn't really a negative when you consider that in warmer weather I'm going to appreciate the cool air flow. The second negative is the material that the soles are made from, due to their nature you can build up static walking on nylon carpets, I've had more electric shocks wearing these shoes than any others, so watch yourself, and be careful if you work in IT!!
