This black bear was spotted in East Asheville at the condo community The Cloisters.
That is one big black bear! I have lived in mountain towns for five years now and have not seen one bear in person.

I’m a transplant here from S Mississippi (picayune). We had a bear living next to my old place in Weaverville. I’d come home and she’d be sunning, lazy as a cat. Damn near had to step over it to get inside. I didn’t taunt it, but I was always amazed by it. So I’d stand near (far enough away to run if needed, but still pretty close) and eat a snack and talk to it like a pet. These black bears are pretty docile as long as they don’t feel threatened. I think this bear would have been more pissed about actually putting forth the effort to move if I approached it than feeling threatened.
I want a black bear pet. I imagine it would be a lot like the Jungle Book or I guess it could end like Grizzly Man….
