Red Sox Tie World Series 2-2, Jonny Gomes’ Home Run And Kolten Wong’s Mistake.

Couple of thoughts:

I. Clay Buchholz was awesome.  Sure he didn’t have his best stuff, sure he only went four innings but you know what, he got 12 outs, only gave up one run and quieted all the critics who were saying that he shouldn’t have pitched.  People questioned Clay earlier this year when he was injured and didn’t rush his comeback.  They criticized him when he said he only had one start left in him a few days ago.  Well, they can criticize him all they want.  He gutted out a solid performance last night

II.  Why are the Cardinals pitching to David Ortiz?  Why wouldn’t you just walk that guy every time and limit him to only one base?  Why give that guy a chance to beat you?  Because right now, that guy is foolishly hot.  You know what, forget I ever mentioned it St. Louis.  Keep pitching to him and letting him smoke you guys.

III.  What happened to Craig Breslow?  Guy got everyone out in the ALCS and now he can’t retire one batter to save his life.  Pretty sure that guy might not see the mound again this series.

IV.  Jonny Gomes‘ home run was so needed.  I started to get the feeling that this line up wasn’t going to be able to do anything.  Plus it was perfect that it was Gomes who hit it.  Just his persona at this point in the season may be enough to get this team to the top.  Pure energy and effort out there. (However, he scares me to death in the field.)

V.  Kolten Wong is going to get crushed and rightfully so, but I kind of feel for the kid.  He’s a rookie brought in as a pinch runner.  Tons of pressure, probably some pretty loose ideas from his 1st base coach on what to do and he got caught leaning.  I’m glad it happened as a Sox fan, but damn I feel bad for him.  That’s the kind of thing that stays with you for a long time.

VI. Finally, how good has Doubront been these last few days?  Just lights out last night when we needed him most.

Game 5 is tonight so no time to rest.  Love that Lester is on the mound with a chance to go up 3-2.  The Cardinals have had trouble all season against left handed pitchers and tonight should be no different.  It would be also amazing to get 7 innings out of Lester to give the bullpen a rest.  Hell, let’s just put up 8 runs like we did in game one and get ready to head back to Boston.
