Marine Environment Protection Authority Chairperson Dharshani Lahandapura said that during an exploration of the sea bed carried out by the Navy and NARA it was confirmed that there are about 400 pieces of waste including containers.
The Chairperson said that a local organization named by the owners of the X-press Pearl ship, had arranged for a ship intended to recover the waste and containers from the sea bed, and the ship was reaching the Colombo port. Lahandapura said the recovery of waste and containers that fell into the sea will be done under total supervision of the Marine Environment Protection Authority and with approval of other institutions, in the upcoming few days.
