These charts are from a new Gallup Poll -- done between May 3rd and 7th of a random national sample of 1,011 adults, with a 4 point margin of error.
It shows that public approval of legal same-sex marriages continues to grow in the United States -- and now rests at a record 64% (while only 34% still disapprove). About 74% of Democrats, 71% of Independents, and 47% of Republicans now believe same-sex marriages should be legal. That view also includes 65% of Catholics and 55% of Protestants and non-specific christian groups.
America is growing up -- and most now want equality to include our LGBT citizens. The rabid fundamentalist right is still trying hard to reinstate discrimination in marriage rights, but the legality of same-sex marriages now seems to be a fait accompli. It's here to stay.
