Rebel Ridge

There are plenty of movies about outsiders visiting a small town and things not working out as expected. It is a pretty safe genre, as a lot of people assume small towns are somehow inherently shady after being gaslit by this trope for years. So, here comes Rebel Ridge, where Aaron Pierre (the new voice of Mufasa) heads to a small town to bail out his brother, only to find corrupt cops that steal his bail money.Along for the ride are Don Johnson as the sheriff, AnnaSophia Robb still looking for Winn Dixie, and James Cromwell playing someone still alive.

The catch here is that Aaron plays one of those “men with a particular set of skills”, which is something these pigs didn’t count on. So it is a war between corrupt cops and a dude. Just a guy. I’m actually always running behind on reviews, and to be honest, its been about a month since seeing this, and I know what my initial grade was for my YouTube review, but this film has been rapidly vanishing from my memory. I remember a couple of scenes that worked rather well, and thinking the film has a longer runtime it doesn’t necessarily need. So, this is a bit of a cut to the chase, because even though I know this film has audio description on Netflix, I can’t remember it.

Initially, I gave this a B-, and I’ll stick with that. But, the caveat here is that this has rapidly turned into an almost instantly forgettable affair, likely meaning I was generous.

Final Grade: B-
