Reason Behind Teen Car Crashes

When I first read this article on teen driving dangers, I thought "duh." But on second glance, I realized there is some information that I didn't know. Weather is NOT a big contributing factor to auto accidents. I feel like we read stories about car accidents all the time on the news and if it's raining or snowing outside, I assume that had something to do with it. That doesn't seem to be the case. It's those darn cell phones! Teenagers who are inexperienced behind the wheel should not be on their phones while they are driving. Those two factors are the reason behind teen car crashes. It makes sense, but it's probably hard for parents to get those phones away from their teenagers. They send hundreds of texts a day. Oh my! It's pretty crazy to think of how connected teenagers are today compared to when I was in high school!
FROM NBC: Inexperience and distractions may be key factors when it comes to car crashes involving teen drivers. Researchers at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia analyzed more than 800 such auto accidents -- and found aggressive driving and bad weather were -not- primary factors in most cases. Instead -- experts say many accidents involved either distracted driving -- like with a cell phone -- or a failure to scan for hazards far ahead or on either side of the car.
