Ratings: ‘Empire’ ‘Rosewood’ Off To Strong Starts, ‘Devious Maids’ Renewed

I didn’t feel like making a story just for Devious Maids, but Lifetime has renewed the show for a fourth season. Pretty good for a show rejected by ABC, and picked up later by Lifetime. In less surprising news, TNT cancelled Proof. I think everyone saw that coming.

Empire returned last night to 16.2M viewers, pretty amazing, but down slightly from the fall finale (17.6M). It also had a 6.7 rating in the demo, which is astounding actually. Rosewood was the lead in, and it opened strong with 7.5M viewers and a 2.4 in the demo. Considering the ratings for Monday and Tuesday night shows, Rosewood is very much on the fast track for a full season. FOX needs something other than Empire pulling in more than 5 million viewers.

NBC saw Mysteries Of Laura return to 7.1M viewers, not bad for that show. I might be wrong about its inability to survive a second season. The show, for some reason, has fans. SVU managed 8.3 million viewers in its two hour season premiere.

ABC had good success with The Middle (8.2M) and The Goldbergs (7.6M) which both returned up, but Modern Family (9.5M) and Black-ish (7.3M) were both down from their premieres last season. Nashville continues to struggle with 4.9M, also down from last year.

Over at CBS, Survivor pulled in 9.7M in its season premiere leading into the season finale of Big Brother with 6.5M.
