Below are my random thoughts about True Blood Episode 7.05 titled, “Lost Cause.” This episode

ERIC AND PAM’S QUEST TO GET SARAH NEWLIN

The quest for Eric and Pam is to hunt down and find their arch enemy and the woman behind infecting vampires with HepV, Sarah Newlin. The episode begins with them getting ready to take off for Dallas with Willa. Willa refuses to go feeling betrayed by Eric who made her and then, left her to fend for herself.  So, she refuses to go with them and instead she strikes a deal with Eric that if he releases her, she will tell him what she learned from her father about Sarah Newlin. He grants her request and she then tells him about Sarah’s sister who is a vampire and that she lives in Dallas. So, Pam and Eric now have a destination to go find their enemy, vampire coffins and all.

Ginger really wants to go along with them and even volunteers to ride in Willa’s coffin if they take her. Eric, of course refuses and Ginger goes into a tirade about how she’s been his sex slave for years without even any sex. It’s a hysterical scene that is true Ginger, but unfortunately, she doesn’t sway Eric and she is last seen screaming on top of Eric’s coffin as it is loaded into the van.

In Dallas, Pam and Eric find Sarah’s vampire sister, Amber Mills, who is also infected with HepV. She hates Sarah, too and both Pam and Eric really seem to like her since she is willing to help them. Pam especially likes her, which is a really rare occurance, as you know. Amber tells them that there’s a gala being held that night in which Sarah’s parents plan to attend, but she fears that there is no way that they will get in because security will be tight and they won’t “fit in” because the only ones invited are assholes. Eric replies that she doesn’t know them, and says “we can be assholes.”

The next time we see Eric and Pam they are in Dallas at the Carmilla Hotel and Pam who is already dressed, exclaims, as she sees herself in the mirror that “I’m a Republicunt.”  Ha, a new word created for the Urban Dictionary by the awesome Pam; love it. Pam then quickly discovers that Eric has reached the next stage of the HepV virus, Stage 2 but he reminds her that he is going to die and she must accept it.

They arrive at the Gala and Eric quickly finds Sarah’s father and glamours him, but before he can get the information he needs, the Yakuza show up and start killing people.  Meanwhile, just before this happens, Sarah’s mother enters the ladies room and Sarah, who is in there hiding, sees her. Sarah tells her that she is in trouble and her mother convinces her that she’s got to get out of there. As they are making their escape the Yakuza find them, but not before shooting her mother dead. Sarah continues to run, but just then, Eric arrives and grabs Sarah by the neck holding here in the air, but the Yakuza show up.  Eric lets Sarah go and runs toward the men and kills the head Yakuza fighter.

Presumably, Eric and Pam are going to have something to do with the Yakuza, but it’s a shame that Sarah slipped out of Eric’s hands. When Eric left she quickly ran away.

SOOKIE HAS A PARTY!

sookie

Sookie wakes up to find Alcide’s daddy and his girlfriend, Lafayette and James in the house preparing for a party. She doesn’t seem to be in the mood for a party and tells them so, but Lafayette convinces that it’s a time to celebrate life, so she gives in.  Just then, then Bill shows up with flowers and she realizes that she has no choice but to join in. All the town seems to show up to celebrate the release of Arlene, Holly and Jane Bodehouse and also to pay respects to the dead, Alcide and Tara. Arlene helps Sookie to understand how to cope with the loss of her man, Alcide and eventually she manages to enjoy herself a bit. The party also saw the following:

  • Andy proposes – Finally, after all the deaths we’ve seen in the show this season it was nice to experience a truly lovely moment. After almost losing Holly, Andy has finally decided to ask for her hand in marriage. It was such a touching scene with the two and it was made even sweeter that he used Sookie’s grandmother’s engagement ring when he proposed.
  • Lettie Mae is still trying to contact Tara – Many are saying that the Lettie Mae storyline is boring and that she is really annoying. While both of these things may be true, somehow her determination makes me think that there must be something to it, so (don’t shoot me), I’d like to see more from her to find out if Tara really is caught and needs her help. Also, I love Adina Porter who is just a great actress.
  • Sam and Nicole – Nicole has been through a lot and being pregnant to boot makes me sort of understand how stressed she is, however, I think she needs to take it down a notch. With the help of Sam I’m sure that will happen. After her outburst at the party, Sam wisely takes her home.

JAMES, JESSICA, LAFAYETTE, JASON AND VIOLET PENTAGRAM

For some reason, Jessica has lost interest in James. I wish they would explain why; he’s sure is pretty handsome and treats her well, but she has been pushing him away ever since they got out of the Vamp camp.  But, Lafayette and James have instead become fast friends and Lafayette seems willing to take over for Jessica, but until this episode, James has been reluctant.

Jason and Violet are firmly together as a couple, but in this episode we notice that Jason might not be as interested in her as he once was, mainly because she’s just plain weird.

So, what happens in this episode between the five of them is not that surprising. Jessica spurns James and he runs to Lafayette which results in them having sex. Jessica sees them going at it and is utterly appalled running away.  Jason has been disappointed by Violet when she made a rather rude comment about his grandmother’s engagement ring and when he sees Jessica run upstairs in tears after seeing Lafayette and James, he gets Violet’s permission to go comfort her. Lafayette then runs upstairs to Jessica and Jason saying that he deserves a bit of love too and pretty much tells Jess off saying that she caused the whole thing to happen.  After Lafayette leaves, one thing leads to another and Jessica and Jason end up making love. Violet hears them outside the bedroom door but instead of  barging in to defend her territory (Jason) as she normally would, she quietly leaves. Knowing Violet as we do, I doubt this will be the end to this and she will find a way to make Jason and Jessica pay for their infidelity.

BILL COMPTON’S FUTURE AND PAST

Bill is very reminiscent of the Bill from Season 1 in this episode, very still and quiet and, at the party, not really a participant. It’s obvious that he’s only there because its at Sookie’s house, which is close to his, but mostly because she is there. I doubt Bill would hang out with the rest of the town folk socially; they just don’t seem to have much in common. And, he was not really “in the moment” with the group.

We first see him when he arrives at Sookies and brings her flowers, and I’m sure if Pam was there she would be warning him again that it’s “not going to happen.

While at the party he spends time remembering his former life as a human during the Civil War. I have to say that I’m usually a big fan of the flashbacks on True Blood, but I need to know why Bill is thinking about his past. I’m willing to wait until future episodes to know, but somehow these flashbacks didn’t seem to relate to anything and were very disjointed. However, with that said, it was nice to see Bill as a good father and husband back then.

As Bill is thinking of the past, Sookie comes out and interrupts him with a rebuke for not socializing. They talk for a while and he congratulates Sookie for what she has done. When she seems surprised by that, he has her look through the windo at the “mainstreaming” that is going on.

He’s ready to go and they have a nice talk together and she eventually thanks him for seeing her the way she can’t see herself. She then hugs him and says, “Goodbye.”

Later on, we see Bill remembering his goodbye to his wife, Caroline when he left for the Civil War. He remembers telling her that she is his first and only true love and he will survive and come back to her and the children. As we all know that didn’t happen.

Back to real life, as Bill looks in the mirror of his bathroom and notices the veins of Hep V; he’s infected with the virus.
