Wow, they certainly got things going in this week’s episode. So far this season it appears that all has been buiding up to this. Not only do we get to Russell, but we also see Sookie get it on, if not with Alcide. This episode included a lot of dramatic impact with the shooting of Sam and Luna and the reveal about Terry’s past and the IFRIT. I applaud the new writer, Angela Robinson for her talents. I’m really excited for next week.
Below are a few of my random thoughts about this episode:
The Search for Russell
Unfortunately, for Alcide (especially), the boys, vampires Eric and Bill that is, barge in on the beginning of Sookie and Alcide’s love making. Well, actually, the love making had already been interrupted since Sookie just barfed all over Alcide right as they enter. However, the intention was to break it up, and they succeeded. Poor Alcide still has to wait to taste some of Sookie. Bill and Eric convince Sookie that she can help them find out from Alcide’s employee Doug, who dug up Russell which should help them to locate him. The four of them go and find Doug and when Sookie reads his mind, it’s revealed to her that it was a woman vampire with the same necklace as Nora who dug him up. They then take Alcide’s van and go to a remote location (again as directed by Sookie reading Doug’s mind) to find him. While on their way, in the back of the van, Bill and Eric are arguing over Nora. Bill thinks she is the traitor and Eric does not. However, they are interrupted when Bill gets a call from Molly at the Authority saying that their IStakes have been activated and they have until dawn to find Russell or, they will no longer be “too cute to be goo.”
As they enter the building, Bill tells Sookie, to stay behind with Alcide and Doug as Eric and he will find Russell. Sookie is having none of it, she wants the adventure and reminds them of her microwave fingers and how she is not afraid. She’s says she’s also seen enough horror movies to know that you don’t split up when there’s a crazed killer on the loose. Wow, Sookie sure is getting her mojo on in this episode!
They enter the building to fine it rat infested. The rats are feeding on body parts and there are piles of dead bodies that are covered with them. They then stumble upon a room where live people are hanging on hooks (presumably dinner for Russell) and one of them yells for help. He points them to the location down the hall where they find Russell in bed and he says, “It took you long enough, what infernal racket have you been making?“ And as Eric comes up and greets him saying, “Hello old friend, do you remember me? We’ve come ot finish what we started.” Russell replies, “As my great love Talbot used to say when we were buck hunting, “give it your best shot.” Just then we see Alcide turns into a wolf, as he is presumably in control by Russell.
In a very dramatic scene showing all sorts of things going on in Bon Temps, Roman preaches to the Authority to convince them that he means what he says, “we will not standby by as zealots are trying to steal the righteousness of our cause.”
Tara, Pam and Jessica at Fangtasia
When we see Tara in this week’s episode, we find her walking through Fangtasia looking very sexy in a lovely blue outfit, as given to her by Pam. Pam is impressed with the new look, but tells her she is to be a bartender and when Tara tries to protest in her typical Pam way, cuts her down and makes her see sense. When a human comes up to Tara to get a drink and she immediately tries to bite her, but Pam rushes in telling her that she is NEVER to eat someone in Fangtasia or in public at all. She says,
“I saved your fucking life and lent you some truly exquisite clothes, but if you do anything to mess with Fangtasia, I will silver you and stick you in a coffin to rot until the next millenium.”
Later, Jessica walks in, comes up to the bar and starts talking to Tara about life as a vampire. She manages to soften Tara a bit so that she too begins to reveal her feelings to Jessica. They seem to be becoming BFF’s and get along. However, later as Tara is taking a break outside, she runs into Hoyt who propositions her. She says no and Hoyt asks why and she still refuses him, but it’s only temporary. We see Jessica feeding on a girl in one of the stalls in the bathroom who hears Hoyt’s voice in the next stall. She immediately stops her feeding and goes into the stall discovering Tara feeding on Hoyt. She attacks Tara and they start a girl fight right there. So much for being BFF’s.
Does Jessica still love Hoyt? I think she does, but just wants to experience some life before settling down with him. And, for Tara I’m sure it doesn’t mean a thing. Poor Hoyt is just trying to “feel” something. He is truly a tragic figure this season.
Shape-shifters
When we left them last, Sam and Luna had been shot, presumably by some vampire/supernatural haters in a van. We first see Sam in the episode earlier when Jason and Andy are investigating the death of Emery and Suzanne. Sam tells Andy that he found them dead and he also reveals that they are shifters like him. Then, Sam goes to Luna’s house to presumably to inform her that their two friends have just been shot. After discussing it, Luna asks Sam to leave (we hear Emma making noise in her bedroom which Luna fears is her becoming a werewolf again). Sam agrees to leave but says he will look in on them in the morning. As soon as he goes out the door and into the yard, he is shot. Luna runs out and is also shot. We then see Emma come out of the house and when she sees the danger, she immediately shifts into a wolf and runs away. The scene ends with Sam and Luna dying and reaching for each other.
Do you think it’s possible that they are dead? I just can’t believe that Sam would be killed and it would be sad for Sam to die just as he seems to have finally found someone that he might be able to share his life with.
Terry, Patrick and IFRIT
In tonight’s episode we see Terry and Patrick almost lose their lives when their army buddy, who has gone a bit “bat crazy” decides if he kills them, he will be free of his daemons. However, when he starts to describe it all Terry says he has experienced the same thing and therefore, he convinces him to let them free. Patrick goes a long with it until they are set free, but immediately punches their friend and knocks him out cold. Terry is upset by this and is also fearful since we just saw him relive the killing of a women who right before she died, cursed him with IFRIT. This is what IFRIT means, I had to look it up:
Ifrit—also spelled, efreet, ifreet, afreet, afrite, and afrit (Arabic: ʻIfrīt: عفريت, pl ʻAfārīt: عفاريت)—are supernatural creatures in Arabic and Islamic cultures. They are in a class of infernal Jinn noted for their strength and cunning. An ifrit is an enormous winged creature of fire, either male or female, who lives underground and frequents ruins. Ifrits live in a society structured along ancient Arab tribal lines, complete with kings, tribes, and clans. They generally marry one another, but they can also marry humans. While ordinary weapons and forces have no power over them, they are susceptible to magic, which humans can use to kill them or to capture and enslave them. As with the jinn, an ifrit may be either a believer or an unbeliever, good or evil, but he is most often depicted as a wicked and ruthless being.
Terry runs out of the room and so does Patrick but not until he ties up their friend. When they are outside, we see smoke come into the room filled with fire which immediately engulfs their friend as the scene ends.
I wonder about Terry and whether or not he will be able to conquer the daemons that have been plaguing him since his Iraq days. It’s really just his guilt, in my opinion, but this is True Blood, so anything is possible, especially supernatural beings.
Others Bon Temps Happenings
Lafayette is still haunted by his own daemons and is fed up with it. He smashes all the figurines of gods on his mantle and asks for Jesus to help him. Jesus shows up, well, just his head anyway, but his mouth is sewed shut even though he is attempting to tell Lafayette something. Then we see Ruby Jean, Lafayette’s mother in her hospital bed experiencing the same vision of Jesus, but she seems to understand what he’s trying to say and tells him that she will tell Lafayette.
At the end of last week’s episode we saw Jason and Andy being thrown out of the Faery bar onto the grass. Jason next wakes up at home naked, but not before he has a dream where he is wearing pjs’ from his childhood and is having breakfast with his parents as if he was 10. His parents immediately start gushing blood from vampire punctures on their necks and Jason wakes up. Andy too is found naked on his couch by Arlene who is aghast by his behavior.
Presumably, Jason will start looking for whoever killed his parents in future episodes and Andy, I’m sure hasn’t heard the last of Morilla.
I wonder if anyone is working at Merlotte’s these days?
