Another great episode written by Alexander Woo where we find life in Bon Temps getting even crazier than usual and, at the Authority, torture and the true death for some is clearly a reality. Sookie is going through major guilt for having killed Debbie and then turning Tara. Bill and Eric are released (but with restraint) to find Russell. Tara is not a happy vampire and we see the end of an era for Pam and Eric.
Sookie is Guilty
Sookie is feeling very guilty for having killed Debbie Pelt. She is also upset at how Tara is behaving about having been turned into a vampire. Lafayette told her essentially that she is the cause of all the trouble in the town, and while that may not be entirely true, she sure is the center of it. She first goes to her brother Jason to confess her crime and tells him to take her in. She says, I’m sick of it, I’m sick of lying and covering up and ruining people’s lives. Of course, that doesn’t happen and Jason talks her out of it. However, hearing others thoughts at Merlotte’s makes it even harder to dispel her fears.
Lafayette is fighting his daemons as well and after learning that Sookie told Alcide about Debbie’s death he carries a lot of resentment and is feeling bad about what has taken place. We see his rage come out in a different way. The “devil” in him takes over and he seems to cast a spell on Sookie’s car which causes it to run off the road when she is driving home. Luckily she got out before it hit a tree. She goes home and decides it’s time to get drunk. Lafayette now himself, finds her car and immediately calls her to see how she is. Just then, Sookie hears a knock at the door and it’s Alcide. She and Alcide talk about what has happened and he tells her that he has told Debbie’s parents enough that they won’t bother them anymore and that he isn’t going to say anything. They have a couple of drinks and end up together embracing.
Lucky for Sookie, Jessica comes to the Police Station and glamours Andy into forgetting about the case, so for the moment it appears that Sookie and Lafayette are fee of worry. Somehow, I don’t think that will last though.
Terry and his deamons
The storyline about Terry’s past in Iraq is starting to unfold. He and Patrick are on their way to one of their army buddies houses in South Dakota. During the drive Terry falls asleep and we see him remember his time in Al Anbar, Iraq. The marines are on a night patrol and are also enjoying some drinking an drugging, courtesy of Patrick. From the town’s prayer tower, they watch the bombing in the distance when they are surprised to see one of their own, the sentry on duty below, shoot a citizen in the street. It becomes a panicked battle with the towns people leaving all the civilians dead in the street. Terry is very shaken and it’s pretty obvious that this is what has been haunting him for all these years. They arrive at a barn where they think their buddy is and discover his hiding place below the floor of an old barn. They turn to find their friend pointing at gun at them.
Maker and progeny and the search for Russell Edgington
The two vampires are out of their prison at the Authority headquarters, but only to find Russell Edgington. They still have their IStakes in place so they know that it could be just a matter of time before they die, if they fail. Their obvious course is to first question those that know about Russell and his death to find out where he is. Pam is the first to be subject to this scrutiny from her maker, Eric. She fiercely defends herself and swears that she hasn’t and would never say where Russell is hidden. Eric tells Bill its “not Pam.” Pam is very hurt by this and she tells him that if she means so little to him, he is welcome to release her from her obligation as his progeny.
Next we see them on the steps of the Fangtasia basement where Eric, does in fact, release Pam from her tie to him. It’s a very touching scene and I never loved the character of Pam so much as I did in this scene. They embrace and Eric tells her,
“You are my child, as I was the child of Godric. “You were born in greatness. You’re a maker now, our blood will thrive. Do you understand?” and, then he kisses her.
In the end of the episode, we see that Pam has decided to be a mentor for her progeny, Tara and begins to show her how to live her new life.
Bill and Jessica also have a sweet and touching scene together in this episode. While searching the Compton mansion for bugs. Jessica shows concern and whether or not Bill is still King, because obviously, something has happened. Bill proclaims he is still king, at least until their change their mind. Bill finds a half smoked joint and they have a few moments of father daughter banter when he announces to her, “its your home too; you can take care of yourself.”
Jessica asks Bill if he’s going to go see Sookie because she is concerned about her. Jessica tells him, she doesn’t care what happened, ”Sookie and you is different that anyone else.” After an embrace, Bill tells her, “I think I’ve done well,” knowing that this may be the last time he sees her if they don’t find Russell. Truly Bill is now happy with his progeny even though he never wanted to be a maker ever.
At the end of the episode, we see both vampires outside Sookie’s house as they look in on her having sex with Alcide. They decide that Sookie could be useful so they will elicit her help, even if it means they have to use force.
The Authority
There is real trouble within the Authority we find. The chancellors are watching Bill and Eric’s progress and none are content with their lack of progress. Roman and Salome know that there is a traitor in their midst and while Bill and Eric are out searching for Russell, they now apply their efforts toward finding this enemy within their midst. Nora is tortured again by the duo and when shown the Iphone App that can instantly kill Eric and Bill, she reveals the traitor’s name. Roman and Salome go to the chancellors and Roman confronts the traitor, who is Drew Alexander, the vampire who was turned as a child, and he finds the true death by Roman who uses the stake, better know as the “Judas Tree.” Is this all there is in the group that is a Sanguanista or, are there more? Personally, I worry that Salome will live up to her ancient reputation and has more evil up one of her seven veils.
The rest in Bon Temps
Sam has his own troubles. His buddies from running days come into Merlotte’s and ask him to come run with them that night. He accepts the invitation, but when he shows up, we find the two dead. I presume this will mean more for Sam in the future and could Luna have anything to do with this?
Andy and Jason are invited to go out to party and they are taken to a Faery Bar. There, Jason sees his cousin Hadley who reveals to him that she and her son are in hiding and that his parents were killed by the vampires. She says that he and Sookie have to hide too. She is warned not to say more by one of the other faeries and starts to run away. Jason tries to get to her, but is stopped when Andy jumps in to help and they are both ejected from the bar and find themselves back out in an open field. Two fairies come up to them and they cast their light on them. I wonder if this is to make them forget what they have seen or to stun them or even to kill them? We’ll have to wait for episode 5 to find out.
