Rainfall Predicted During Holidays of Eid-ul-Fitr 2024? The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says that a westerly wave will likely hit the upper parts of the country on April 10th. On April 12th, a second powerful westerly wave will come after this. It might hit most of the nation on April 13 and last through April 15.

Based on this weather system, the PMD has made the following predictions for different parts of the country:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

Between April 10th and 15th, there will be rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, and Malakand, with breaks here and there.

From April 12th to 15th, there will be breaks in Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram, with breaks here and there. From April 13th to April 15th, there will also be some strong rain and hailstorms.

Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir:

From April 10th to April 15th, there will be rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur), and sometimes there will be pauses. From April 13th to April 15th, there will also be some strong rain and hailstorms.

Punjab/Islamabad:

On April 10th and 12th (evening/night), rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal. There will occasional gap in the rain in Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, and Bahaw. From April 13th to April 15th, there may also be isolated windstorms or hailstorms.

Balochistan:

From April 12th and 14th, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are forecast in Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Sibbi, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Chagi, Panjgur, Gawadar, and Kech. Some places will experience heavy rain.

Sindh:

The 13th and 14th of April are forecast to bring rain, wind, and thunder to Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro, and Sanghar. However, Karachi and Hyderabad may also have a few rain, wind, or thunderstorms during that time.

Impacts and Recommendations

  • From April 13th to April 15th, heavy rain could cause flash floods in the nullahs and streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Manshera, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and the rivers that flow into the Kabul River.
  • From April 13th to April 15th, there is a chance of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan. These slides could affect places that are easily damaged.
  • During this time, lightning, windstorms, and hailstorms could hurt crops that are still standing as well as structures that aren’t attached, like electric poles, vehicles, solar panels, and so on.
  • Farmers are advised to handle their crops based on the weather, especially in places where wheat is harvested.
  • Tourists are advised not to move too much during the rainy season.

All relevant authorities are told to stay alert and do what they need to do to avoid any bad things happening during the predicted time.
