It seems like it’s not just the actors of the hit HBO series ‘True Blood’ that get talked about. It’s also the music that is picked to go into each episode. Radio.com has been going into the music of each episode this season.
For this week’s episode ‘Don’t You Feel Me’ they talk to the writer of the episode Daniel Kennith. This was Kennith’s first episode he has written for the series and it sure did have a lot of twist and turns to it. And each important part of the episode needed the music to go along with it. So yes when Bill (Stephen Moyer) took the head off the governor to Terry (Todd Lowe) getting killed and even when Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Warlow (Robert Kazinsky) got close and personal at the end of the episode. All of that excitement needed music to go with it.
The title of this week’s episode if from a 1960’s song called just that, ‘Don’t You Feel Me’ by an artist called Damon. Daniel had this to say on why he picked that song:
“Egon [aka, Now-Again Records founder Eothen Alapatt], a big fan of the show himself, used to send the True Blood writers’ office Now-Again Records releases over the years. They all made their way into my own iTunes library, but this song stuck in my head. There’s similar maker/progeny connections going on with other characters — Bill and Jessica, Eric and Willa — but I loved it as a title in regards to Sookie and Warlow because it’s a statement. They’re telling Bill, ‘Don’t you feel me.”
Of course that wasn’t the only musical moment that the show had. It was the moment when Terry was tying up his lose ends and went over to Lafayette’s house to give him the key to his safe deposit box. In the background of this scene you will hear Lucinda Williams’ ‘Born To Be Loved’ from her 2011 album ‘Blessed’. This song was another choice by the writer.
“I love this song so much, and thought it’s sweet melodic lyrics about how precious every life is (and though still quite somber in tone), it could play tragically under a scene with Terry as he continues with his plan to kill him- self.”
