Disney’s latest live-action remake, “Snow White,” directed by Marc Webb, premiered on March 21, 2025, sparking discussions and debates among critics and moviegoers alike. Rachel Zegler stars as Snow White, reimagined as a bold and independent character, while the traditional prince is replaced by Jonathan, a charming Robin Hood-style character.

Reactions to the film have been mixed. Rotten Tomatoes currently shows a 47% approval rating, and Metacritic rates it at 47 out of 100, indicating a lukewarm reception. IGN praised the remake as “the best live-action adaptation in a decade,” highlighting its engaging storytelling and strong character development. Variety commended Rachel Zegler’s performance as “brilliant and captivating.” On the other hand, The Guardian criticized it as “exhaustingly awful,” while the New York Post dismissed it as “boring and mediocre.”

Controversy arose around Disney’s portrayal of the seven dwarfs, prompting the studio to actively consult with representatives from the dwarfism community to ensure a respectful portrayal. Rachel Zegler’s diverse casting has also been recognized positively, aligning with Disney’s continued commitment to inclusive storytelling.

Despite these varied reactions, “Snow White” enjoyed a strong opening weekend, earning an impressive $55 million at the North American box office, demonstrating significant audience interest.
