It is not your average day at work when you find a litter of baby rabbits nesting in a bag of peat moss, but that is just what happened to employees at a Home Depot in Morrison, Colorado a few weeks ago. The little bunnies had apparently been abandoned by their mother and had taken refuge inside a bag of peat moss that had broken open. A video of the makeshift warren was posted on You Tube on May 1, 2012. For these little bunnies it may have been a case of any peat in a storm.
The employees have since moved the bunnies to a location away from the public with a sign advising everyone "Do Not Touch." It is thought that they will leave on their own once they are old enough to fend for themselves. Although life could be pretty cushy when there is a whole team of humans looking after you.
This is not the first time that a Home Depot store has played host to wildlife. In June, 2011, a mama Mallard duck chose to build her nest and lay her eggs on a table in the garden section at a store in Bangor, Maine. The mother was pampered by the staff with food and water as she cosseted her clutch of seven eggs. The unusual venue was smart thinking on the part of the mama, in addition to food and drink, she was also far from predators who might otherwise disturb her and her nest.
