In the past few days I have heard frequently as if the proposed law is religious coercion. It is important to clarify: the Haredi public has been a member of the ruling coalition for many years. Had we wanted to, we could propose new religious laws every single day. In practice, until today we have never proposed a single religious law that changes the present status. We do not believe in religious legislation and we advocate each person living according to his faith. Yet still, we have some responsibility to the Jewish character of the State, that we should not be like all the other nations..
