QuikTrip declared a free drop of 1,000 Ethereum NFTs

Some brands pledge their NFTs’ utility or perks. QuikTrip, on the other hand, is simply providing its employees with cartoonish avatars.

Brands of every kind and from many different businesses, like Starbucks, Nike, Charmin, and Taco Bell, have joined the NFT world. QuikTrip, a group of convenience stores in the United States, has joined the competition by giving away free digital collectibles.

QuikTrip announced a free drop of 1,000 Ethereum NFTs to celebrate the opening of the chain’s 1,000th store. Each NFT has a cartoonish “QT” character with randomly generated visual elements and the same red shirt as store workers. Some of them are even eating the chain’s hot dogs, burgers, veggie wraps, and other quick eats.

However, the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based chain, which has stores in 17 states, including numerous locations in Texas and Arizona, is not planning any type of rewards program or future utility for the NFTs. A company representative confirmed that there are no current intentions for the assets.

“For our customers that have interest in the digital space, this is a fun and unique way to celebrate the opening of our 1,000th store,” QuikTrip Corporate Communications Manager Aisha Jefferson-Smith said.

A press release says that the Ethereum NFTs are “not intended for resale,” but they can be traded and sold like any other Ethereum NFT. According to the free claim page, only about 30 of the free NFTs have been taken so far. One is already for sale on the secondary market of OpenSea for 1 ETH, which is about $1,885.

QuikTrip only cares about giving away a free digital keepsake to celebrate the opening of its new store in Converse, Texas on Thursday. This is in contrast to how big companies use NFTs and blockchain coins to build stronger brand loyalty.

Starbucks is launching a Web3 rewards platform called Starbucks Odyssey on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon, with both free and premium NFTs, while bubble tea chain Boba Guys is developing a rewards program on Solana.
