So I decided to be pro-active today after speaking to a lovely lady who has dedicated her life, and her blog to finding gluten free makeup and cosmetic products. I don’t mean so called gluten free that the companies say – well yeah, we think it’s gluten free. This chick goes mental on them, calling them out on their naivety and unwillingness to learn about gluten-intolerant-living.
You know what I’m talking about – those sketchy emails that leave you feeling as if you were just made fun of on your first day of high school? The condoning ones that make you wonder what the person on the other side of the computer screen really is thinking? and wondering if it’s a patronizing “stop being so dramatic” thought and wanting to beat them
Well she goes one step further and asks the right questions – asks them about their facilities and their testing methods.
Inspired by this wonderful woman, I decided to make a list of gluten-containing ingredients that I may find in normal cosmetic products that I find at any grocery or pharmacy.
Man did I do it. I just googled it and came up with a ridiculously extensive list in just a few minutes. Then I tried typing it all into my iPhone notes so that I could carry it around with me. I finally came up for air a few hours later and realized that maybe, just maybe I should share what I found for you. (PS I also quickly looked up inredients that contain dairy and only came up with a few – but I may research that a bit more in the near future – see small list after gluten containing ingredients. Also, see the list below that for brands that I KNOW aren’t gluten free because I’ve either tried it or have seen other ppl try it and complain about it).
Now I’m not a chemist, and do not claim that all of these are true…this is just the result of a preliminary and super-fast investigation….that left me going – do YOU know what crap you put on your face (see Twitter stream from the 31st May at 8:25-ish pm EST).
