Queen Elizabeth Documentary “The Coronation” Airs January 14th
The upcoming documentary “The Coronation,” takes a look at the coronation ceremony of Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen makes a surprise appearance in the documentary, where she discusses her coronation, and that of her father’s, King George VI.

Queen Elizabeth’s coronation happened 16 months after she ascended to the throne, at age 25.

Because of her father’s untimely death, and since she was the oldest of his two children, she became Queen.

King George VI only had two children… Queen Elizabeth, and her sister, Princess Margaret.

The Queen’s coronation, which was reenacted during season one of Netflix’s The Crown took place at Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953.

In The Crown, Prince Philip pushed The Queen to broadcast her coronation on live TV.  Which back then was unheard of, because of the religious and spiritual aspects of the service.

They ended up airing the ceremony, but without showing “The Act of Consecration.”

According to the BBC, The Act of Consecration is the most magical aspect of an English Coronation, so extraordinary that history (and the 1953 Coronation Committee) decreed it must remain out of sight.

The documentary airs on the Smithsonian Channel January 14th.
