Quattro – From Italy to Mexico

By Rohit Dassani

Quattro Ristorante is a newly opened Mexican cum Italian place located close to Richmond Road, Bangalore. This outlet also shares the space with SpiceKlub, a modern Indian restaurant. Quattro is a pure vegetarian restaurant taking these cuisines to the next level. The ambiance is modern, rustic and earthy with shades of pink and green all over, and wooden work on the walls. The seating arrangement comprises of colorful sofa and wooden tables. What makes Quattro so unique is the use of modern technology be it molecular gastronomy or liquid nitrogen.

We started the Quattro journey with the Minestrone Tea set. This is a deconstructed version of the classical Italian minestrone soup. The soup is served in a tea set format which can be customized as per your needs. The soup is served with fresh breads made in-house. These can also be tried with the different condiments on the table. The Chilled Melon and Feta salad came next. The Melon spheres are marinated in red wine, orange and roasted pine nuts. The dish is sprinkled with balsamic pearls and crumbled feta on top. This is very unique dish with fresh flavors. Next, the Insalate Castano is a hot salad made with water chestnut, beans, horsedish, cherry tomato, jalapenos, shallots tossed in with spicy Mexican sauce served with hickory smoke. Don’t miss out on this, once you take a bite you cannot stop eating.

The appetizer at Quattro are amazing. The Taquito is a fried tortilla cones filled with beans, jalapenos, tomato salsa and avocado ice-cream. Loved the combination of crunchy, tangy and sweet flavors in one dish. The Bruschetta is a toasted baguette sliced and topped with cherry tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella, balsamic pearls and parsley foam. My personal favorite was the Filo Parcels. A Spiced corn and olives wrapped filo pastry, baked till crispy. The fresh flavors will make your palate tinkle. We even their the Fresh nitro Guacamole made fresh on our table, served with tortilla chips.

The appeitizers are best tried with in-house mocktails like Passion Fruit Lemongrass or Guava Chilli Smoothies. The Passion fruit is blended together with lemongrass making this dish sweet and sour at the same time. It was nothing less than amazing. Must, must try! The Guava Chilli Smoothie was spicy made with pink guava. The guava is blended with crushed ice until it is in smoothie consistency.

The main course was served next and we kicked off with the quarter-n-quarter Pizza. The pizza was divided into 4 parts – Margarita(tomato sauce, mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil, fresh basil), Pesto(sundried tomato, bell peppers, jalapenos, pesto sauce), Pimento(bell peppers, glazed onions, jalapeno drizzled with tobasco) and Fiama(onions and green chillies). The pizza was made with the best ingredients possible. Loved the Pimento and Fiama pizza as they were spicy and infused with a lot of flavors.

The Penne Pomodoro E Basilico is a classic dish made with Italian pelati plum tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, basil with penne pasta. The sauce was rich in flavors and the basil made it refreshing. The Spinach Riso with vegetable Paprika sauce was served next. The rice is flavored with Spinach along with vegetables and creamy paprika sauce. The combination of spinach and creamy sauce was delightful. If there was one dish for which I would go back to Quattro, it would be for their Chimichangas Dos Quesos. Fried tortilla is stuffed with vegetables, Mexican rice and chesse, it is topped with Spinach and classic cheese sauce. The dish has made condiments and you can add them as per your need. Absolutely mind-blowing!!

For desserts we had the Tiramisu. The tiramisu at Quattro is not an ordinary one. The presentation of this dish is unique where small cakes are soaked in coffee topped with mascarpone cheese and served with coffee caviar. The portion size is huge here. Lastly, we tried their Chocolate Saturn and Hot chocolate soup. The presentation is out of the world. The chocolate dome is opened with hot chocolate sauce. Inside you will find the mousse on frozen chocolate sand and strawberry jello. The size was very big and the dessert is enough for

Quattro is a experience not to be forgotten. The dishes are infused with flavors and the modern sciences makes them unique and delectable.
