Quantum of Solace is the 22nd movie (official) of the James Bond Franchise and the highly anticipated sequel to the ubiquitously acclaimed Casino Royale (2006). Directed by Marc Foster, Quantum of Solace definitely lacks certain aspects of a traditional Bond movie. Quantum of Solace may be eccentric in the sense that it may not be able to titillate the esoteric Bond fans, for it may lack their eclectic taste, but it definitely succeeds in projecting a new Bond for the contemporary world who may not be an equivalent of a superhero, but who despite being vulnerable is gifted with a killer instinct – the very defining characteristic of Ian Fleming's larger than life human incarnate.

This new Bond goes about his business in a manner that is far more realistic compared to the Bond of the bygone era. His passion and devotion for his job is nothing but inexorable. Though Casino Royale pioneered this graduation, it's Quantum of Solace that consummates it by giving Fleming's espionage artist a mystique that had hitherto eluded him: the remarkable gift of fallibility and a rare chance to be human.Quantum of Solace is a highlight reel of mind boggling action sequences that makes it a high octane extravaganza. The pace of Quantum of Solace is such that one hardly gets the time to breathe freely. The plot, though comparatively weaker than its precursor, is still good enough to keep the viewer guessing, thereby him/her at the edge of the seat throughout.

Unfortunately, the movie as a whole doesn't succeed in matching the brilliance and power of Casino Royale, which had single-handedly changed the very face of the Espionage Franchise, and had helped establish Daniel Craig as the most charismatic James Bond of all time, perhaps even surpassing the likes of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, andPierce Brosnan. Another major weakness of the movie is its ambitious editing—apart from the annoying absence of a worthy antagonist—which is far from just, and at times needless and severely annoying. A bit of subtlety in movie's editing, imparted through directorial supervision, could have done wonders to Quantum of Solace, and would have probably helped it in its quest to becoming one of the best Bond movies of all time. Alas, some things are just not meant to be!All being said and given what we have, Quantum of Solace definitely succeeds in entertaining the action movie lovers, and to some extent in redefining the 007 Franchise. 7/10
