Quantum Computing Breakthrough by IBM

Quantum computing is the next evolution in the computer technology and there are claims that with the use of quantum computing one can get much faster results for calculations than in the machines that are currently available. With the name for it already flying high, a functioning quantum processor has been made by IBM and is finally available to the public call over the internet.

Though the technology is still in its starting stages experts claim that this is will be the the step towards a successful quantum computer. Also, IBM said that it hoped to see processors up to 20 times larger over the next decade. So what is the difference in Quantum computers? The computers that we use today process all their information using bits or binary information that are stored in tiny transistors.

These values can be interpreted as ones and zeros. Quantum computing allows quantum bits that allow values of ones, zeros or both at the same time. This will eventually give rise to more powerful devices with much higher processing speeds than the traditional computers. However even with all these benefits, a serious drawback is that quantum processors are very sensitive and hence must be placed kept at super cooled temperatures in a cryogenic refrigerator. It is also to be noted that even though the quantum computing can perform extreme calculations easily it is proving a major threat to the security industry as it may let the current encryption methods to be cracked easily.
