Pumpkin Mung Dal Porridge Recipe

Pumpkin Mung Dal Porridge recipe is not just good to fill your baby’s tummy but also increases the immunity and makes the baby strong!

Pumpkin is filled with vitamin E and C which is crucial for building the immunity. Mung Dal is protein rich and easy to digest, hence it is a preferred first food for babies. Mung dal along with pumpkin can serve a delicious, filling and energy rich meal for your baby. This recipe is suitable for babies from 7–8 months.

Pumpkin Mung Dal Porridge Recipe

Pumpkin Mung Dal Porridge recipe is not just good to fill your baby’s tummy but also increases the immunity and makes the baby strong!

Ingredients:

  • Pumpkin slices (deseeded and peeled) – 1/4 cup
  • Green gram/ mung dal – 2 tablespoon split and skinned
  • Ghee – 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic – 1 clove, minced
  • Onion – 1/2 small, finely chopped (optional)
  • Roasted cumin powder – a pinch

Method:

  1. Wash the mung dal with water thoroughly. Drain, Soak in enough water for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add minced garlic and saute for few seconds. Next add finely chopped onion, if using. Saute for 1 minute or so.
  3. Next add in the pumpkin pieces followed by soaked mung dal and stir fry for another 1 minute. Add 1 1/2 cup water to the cooker and cover with the lid. Pressure cook for 2 whistles. Put off the flame.
  4. Open the lid of the cooker once all the pressure has been released naturally.
  5. Now add roasted cumin powder and using a hand blender pulse the cooked mung dal and pumpkin mix to get a lump free porridge.
  6. Spoon out the porridge in a bowl and serve to your baby while it is warm.

I have cooked the porridge in a pressure cooker. This pumpkin mung dal porridge is suitable for babies above 7 months of age. When you introduce this porridge make sure it is of thin consistency. Do not add sugar or salt to the porridge if serving to babies below 1 year.
