These charts reflect the results of a recent NBC News / Wall Street Journal Poll -- done between May 28th and June 2nd of a national sample of 1,000 registered voters, with a 3.1 point margin of error.
One of the most important things to be determined in the next election is the control of Congress. The Republicans want to keep control of the Senate and retake control of the House, while the Democrats want to keep control of the House and retake control of the Senate. Which party controls Congress will determine whether anything will get done in Congress after the next election.
This poll shows that the Democrats have the upper hand right now.
About 80% of registered voters say things are currently out of control in this country. And 57% say they think government should do more to solve the nations problems. That would seem to favor Democrats, since they want to change things and do more. Republicans are happy with the status quo.
And, as the third chart show, registered voters prefer Democrats to control the next Congress over Republicans by an 11 point margin (51% to 40%).
