As we celebrate the birth of our nation, the trust in its government is not great. While significant majorities trust the FBI/CIA (60%) and the courts (59%), and believe our elections are basically fair (53%), the same could not be said of either the 115th Congress or the Trump administration.
A whopping 60% say they do not trust the Trump administration, and an even worse 69% say they don't trust the current Congress.
These charts reflect the results of an NPR / PBS NewsHour / Marist Poll -- done June 21st and 25th of a random national sample of 995 registered voters, with a margin of error of 3.1 points.
That same sample also believes to level of civility in our government in Washington has gotten much worse (73%) since Donald Trump took office. Only 6% say it's gotten better, and 19% say it's remained about the same (see bottom chart). Trump promised to be a "uniter", but no one believes he is doing that. Instead he is making things much worse.
