Thoughts on Psycho Goreman

Characters & Performances – Mimi is the young girl that is always beating her brother in the games they play and when she meets the alien, she isn’t going to back down, she ends up controlling the alien, naming him and teaching him about her family. She is a very demanding character that always wants to be the center of attention and finds herself doing that with Goreman in tow. Luke is the brother that is used to getting bossed around by his sister, he will follow her through the adventure and does try to put her back on the right path when she gets led astray. The two young stars Nita-Josee Hanna and Owen Myre are great together, they come off like real siblings and also get the bigger point of their characters differences over. The alien named Psycho Goreman has come to destroy worlds, only he now finds himself being controlled by the young girl, he wants to break away from the control she has and return to his destruction, which is stories are filled with dead pan seriously destruction talk, similar to what Drax is like in the Guardians of the Galaxy. While portrayed as the dangerous figure, we get to see the softer side of this dimensional alien being through the film. We do get a host of different aliens that are trying to track down Psycho Goreman, all with their own motivation for this along the way, but none feel as entertaining as Psycho Goreman, even if their designs are amazing.

StoryThe story here follows two young kids that find themselves being able to control an alien from another dimension that is hellbent on destroying everything and start using him for their own deeds, while teaching him about Earth. This is a very strange story, it is a truly unique one too, think a blend of the kindness in ET and the twisted visions of the Golem tale. The way this is told feels like a coming-of-age tale, despite having the violence, death and destruction around with the dimensional battles. This is one that you really won’t know what will come next, which is great to see and even with the character Psycho Goreman constantly wanting to commit death on people, we will get the laughs along the way with how deep down and dark this gets.

ThemesPsycho Goreman is an action horror comedy that will give us plenty to enjoy, the comedy comes from Psycho Goreman’s delivery of lines, with his desire for destruction in the world, given in such a dead pan tone. The horror gets mixed with the action, as we see the battles that will have plenty of blood mixed with the transformation ability, to give us the disturbing yet comical creations. Where Psycho Goreman truly shines is the special effects and creature creations that all look disturbingly real and most importantly original.
