According to RIM, BlackBerry Protect is a free application that was design to help you find your BlackBerry smart phone and to keep your personal information safe. It can protect various devices at the same time, and brings an easy way to control the phones of your family or small business. It has some utilities that are shown ahead:
Watch the phone current location
Show the current location of your phone through a web site application, but it requires that your smart phone posses GPS technology, because that is the method to trace down your phone.
Rise the volume of the ringtone
This option is design in case you lost your phone on your house and is on Silence profile, making it ringing on the loudest tone in a minute, making it more easy to be found.
Show a message
You can make your phone to show a message on the main scree, even if the device is locked. It could be used to offer a reward in case you lost it and somebody finds it, or to insult a thief for steal your device
Lock Down
This option blocks the device instantly and establish a new password to be unlocked, making impossible to use without introducing it.
Erase the data
You can permanently erase all the data from your device from a remote way (contacts, phone numbers, messages, emails, the content of the SD card, etc.) Very useful in the case of theft to preserve the confidentiality of your information.
Back Up & Restore
Through the application on the phone or the website, you can make a backup of all your personal data, this not include the information that is stored on the SD card. You can program the back up to make it automatically every week or every month for example. The restore can be made at any time in a very simple way, with just pressing the option restore on the device.
