After my Picasso museum visit I decided to do some sweet research. I read about a new shop specializing in profiteroles opened nearby and I was forced to check it out. If I didn’t check it out who would?
Like many new shops in the specialty pastry craze springing up like mad in the past few years, Profiterole Chérie only serves profiteroles. Categorized two ways, they offer classic profiteroles stuffed with ice cream or lighter ones stuffed with pastry cream. With six choices to win me over, I chose Café Moka. I watched the young lady behind the counter take the empty chou and carefully hand pack it with vanilla ice cream. Next she warmed up the special milk chocolate and coffee sauce and gently spooned it into a plastic cup. I was all set.
I took it to a table in the back, and poured the hot sauce over the ice cream. I actually held back diving into it to take a photo (so unlike me around food.) Unfortunately, the photo was blurred, so I didn’t post it. The sauce was sweet and the warmth of it over the cold ice cream along with the delicate perfectly crisp chou, put me in a dessert tailspin. Needless to say it was almost gone in a nanosecond.
The price tag for this small indulgence I thought was high, 6€, but then again I am never rational when it comes to sweets.
I was tempted to take some of the other flavors including lemon meringue, chestnut with Cassis, or the intense chocolate for a test-drive but disciplined myself and left the shop still craving more. The décor of the shop is pink and more pink, looking like it could be a new Barbie Doll setup, Barbie’s Profiterole Shop.
Profiteroles are made by Philippe Urraca and can be eaten in the dining room or taken to go.
