This year, on the occasion of Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the Department of Prisons has decided to provide a special opportunity for the prisoners to meet visitors during the festival days, 13, 14 and 15 April.
The prison department has informed that the relatives visiting the prisoners on these days can bring a parcel of ‘awurudu food’ sufficient for one person.
Apart from this, arrangements have been made to conduct New Year rituals in all the prisons and to provide milk rice to all the inmates.
