Princes & Paupers in Kennington This Saturday

By Lwblog @londonwalks
Here’s Isobel with her Kennington Walk, Princes and Paupers, Saturday 29th March…
Princes & Paupers in Kennington This Saturday What a wonderful way to spend a spring morning. Kennington Park will feature strongly on this walk, and although its history has not always been happy, it remains a draw for people from all around. Some sit and read, others walk their dogs, others play sport, or relax over a coffee or an ice cream in the café. It’s a pretty perfect spot. No wonder I enjoy this walk.
You’ll hear about Rural Economy, Chartism, philanthropic young men who founded what is today the Childen’s Society, see an art gallery housed in a Victorian public lavatory, the library where Charlie Chaplin borrowed books, and the location of a royal palace. And that’s just for starters.
Join me outside Kennington tube station at 10.45 for a walk lasting around two hours. The cost is just £9, or £7 for over 65s, full-time students or those in possession of a current Walkabout card. I look forward to meeting you.
Isobel Isobel is an artist, journalist, linguist, prize-winning Blue Badge Guide and London Walks' token aristocrat. One of her ancestors introduced the waltz to this country.
A London Walk costs £9 – £7 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all London Walks can be found at www.walks.com.
