Prince George’s the Bedroom Community

By Ceemac126 @PGCBlogging

Bedroom community.  At first, it sounds leisurely, sexy even but not so much in reality.  Almost 60% of PGCo residents are commuting out of the county to work thus defining Prince George’s County as a “bedroom community” because all we do is sleep here.  Doesn’t that just let all the air out of your balloon?

Until government agencies, nonprofits and businesses have reason to locate in Prince George’s County, this is the way it’s going to be. While County Executive Baker has said he’s working to lure Department of Defense contractor companies to the county, if the school system is not fixed and he keeps allowing homebuilders to sprawl out into acres of land without potential buyers, we will not attract business or residents.  Yes, the $50 million economic incentive fund is a great start but we are competing with Virginia’s and DC’s amenities.
