Prince Avian Rules the Pool by Scarlett Rains
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Prince Avian Rules the Pool by Scarlett Rains is a December 2013 Artemis publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Prince Avian is at the swimming pool with dad and grandma. He makes a friend in the pool and they start to play games together. However, Prince Avian wants to make all the rules for the game and will not listen to his friend's suggestions. Naturally, his friend doesn't want to play with him after that.
How will Prince Avian react? What does Grandma tell him about making friends and keeping friends?
This is a darling children's book that teaches children to open their minds to the ideas of others. It is an important lesson that even adults forget to practice. Prince Avian must learn that he can't be right all the time and he can't have his way all the time. He will have a lonely life if he continues to treat others the way he treated his new friend. Prince Avian is a good boy and listens to his grandmother's advice.
I will be totally honest here and tell you that reviewing children's books is not my usual stomping grounds. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book along with adult historical novels by this same author as a promotion for the author's works. I can't really speak to the age range on this one, but I would think younger children from 2 or 3 to age 6 or 7. This is a really short book that would match the attention span of a younger child and teaches a valuable lesson that even the very young can grasp.
Overall this one is an A.
