Elizabeth Bennet along with her four sisters Jane, Mary, Kitty and Lydia are living in Georgian England and about to have their lives turned upside down when wealthy young Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy arrive. Could this be the answer Mrs Bennet has been waiting for her daughters to marry?

The Bennet sister exist in a time when the ultimate goal is to marry a wealthy man. Something that Elizabeth slightly rebels against and will not easily agree to a marriage proposal much to the displeasure of her mother. Mrs Bennet is nice enough though, she just wants them all to have a better life. I guess while watching we have to accept that this was the normal thing in this time.
Elizabeth is fantastic though isn't she! Not wanting to just settle, needing to actually find real love and believe in that. Something we can all think the perfect thing now. But given what young women were put through in the late 1700s and early 1800s this was very different. When Mr Darcy arrives it is so easy to feel the tension between him and Elizabeth as they keep crossing paths and this is something that makes everything more interesting and entertaining.
Believe it or not this is the first time watching this film and as a matter of fact any adaptation of Pride & Prejudice (Yes I still haven't seen the tv series with Colin Firth). I couldn't help draw some similarities to Little Women given the female strong dynamic of the stories. But I did try to not compare them too much and take this for what it was as a separate thing.
Keira Knightley picked up an Oscar nomination for her performance and that was well deserved. She was engaging with a lot of energy whilst also putting her mark firmly on each and every scene. I actually felt ashamed that I had no idea that Carey Mulligan was in this one and that it was her film debut, very bad fan for not knowing that! Along with Mulligan and Knightley we also get Talulah Riley, Jena Malone and the incredible Rosamund Pike making up the sisters. Seriously how did I not know about how amazing the cast was in the film. Then you add in national treasure Brenda Blethyn and Donald Sutherland with a small appearance from Judi Dench! Then Matthew Macfadyen adding such a brooding leading man as Mr Darcy and you cannot help but love the mysterious nature of that man.
I seriously adored the film and have no clue to why I wasn't sure that this romantic drama would not be my thing? That is like my absolute favourite mixed genre. I mean at least I have caught up now and it won't be the only time I watch this one, it has a perfect mix of the romance, strong female characters and some brilliant performances.
