President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has focused on increasing the Mahapola Scholarship to 10,000 rupees for university students.
The President has drawn attention to this in a discussion held with the Ministry of Finance.
A few months ago, the University Grants Commission had proposed to increase the Mahapola to ten thousand rupees. But there was no cabinet approval for that. At present, attention has been paid to increase the Bursary, which is five thousand rupees, to seven thousand five hundred rupees.
