Preparing for NEET and AIIMS, Here’s What You Can Do Differently…

Both NEET and AIIMS are among the toughest national-level medical entrance examinations. On a comparative note, in NEET concept, speed and presence of mind of the aspirants are tested. On the other hand, in AIIMS, lengthy problems are asked, and it tests aspirants understanding and concepts about the topics covered. Start by comparing the syllabus

As you go through the syllabus of both exams, you will find that AIIMs cover more topics including general knowledge and logical reasoning. Here, you have to find out what topics of AIIMs exam are not covered in NEET. This would help you save time when covering the common chapters. However, in this way, you can start your preparation strategically and aim for both the entrance exams at the same time. In addition, you can also boost your confidence and grasp a fair idea about the exam pattern and syllabus well.

Know to minimize time on basic concepts

Since the basic concepts are almost the same for both chapters, there is no point in giving unnecessary time to know about basic concepts. So, when revising for AIIMs, you can go through the notes that you have prepared before your NEET exam. This is actually going to save a lot of your time and instead use time potentially. So, there is no need to devote more time for the basic topics that are covered in both the syllabus.

Give focus on logical reasoning and general knowledge

A total of 20 questions are asked from these sections, but it is not included in the NEET entrance exam. You will find that the percentage of questions from the above-said sections are minimal in the exam, but you have to give much importance to both these sections. Therefore, in order to be strong in each of the current affairs topics, you have to go through newspaper and stay updated at the happening around the world on a daily basis. Switching to AIIMs preparation

When you compare both the exams, you will notice that AIIMs offer lengthy questions than NEET exam. Therefore, in the short span of time, the aspirant should try to focus on AIIMs so as to cover up the lengthy questions. However, your NEET preparation will help you cover up for the theatrical approach of the AIIMs exam.

Revising and attempting mock tests

This is a common strategy irrespective of the exam that you attempt. Never make the mistake of giving less time to revision part. The more mock tests you are able to attempt, the better is the chance of scoring good marks. So, this strategy is equally important in case of both AIIMs and NEET exam. You should adopt this strategy during the last phase of your preparations.

However, try to recall the strategies applied in NEET exam and try to apply them when attempting mock tests of AIIMs. In case it works, you can use them. In case you forget them, you have to prepare them once again. Therefore, when you prepare the strategies for NEET, make sure that you do them carefully in order to cover up for both the exams. How attempting NEET Previous Years' Question Papers is vital?

AIIMs have a different set of rules to be flowed for its exam. But in case of direct questions, the technique to prepare would be the same for both the exams. In the case of AIIMs exam, 30% of the questions will be asked directly. However, in this case, solving NEET's previous year's paper would be helpful. So, by following these strategies, you can prepare differently for both exams at the same time. When preparing for NEET and AIIMs simultaneously, you have to prepare for additional sections such as for General knowledge and logical reasoning.

How can strategic preparation be effective?

Try to follow preparation strategies in such a way that you cover up the common topics at the beginning of your preparation. This would help to complete the majority part of the syllabus within a short span of time. After completing the common part of the syllabus, you should focus on the additional section of each of the exams.

Before you finally believe that having prepared for one exam can help you prepare for the other one, the following differences in both the exam pattern can help you.

  • Pattern of the exam - In NEET exam, biology makes up 50% of the scores. On the other hand, Chemistry and Physics together make up for the rest of the paper. In the case of AIIMs, other than the GK section, the rest of the paper is fairly distributed among Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. So, depending on the exam you have to give weight to the subjects.
  • Marking strategies - there is little difference in marking in both the exams. In NEET, for every correct answer, 1 mark is rewarded, and 4 marks are given to a correct attempt. In the case of AIIMs, 1 mark is deducted for every wrong attempt and 3 marks is rewarded for a right attempt.
  • Time schedule of exam - Both exams are conducted in the month of May. But NEET is conducted on the first Sunday of the month whereas AIIMs takes place towards the last week of the month. Therefore, after the NEET exam, you have to focus on GK, Physics and Chemistry section before appearing for NEET exam.
