Prepare a Holiday Meal that's Perfect for Everyone
Christmas is right around the corner. 24 more days to be exact, this is the time that we're usually getting ready to throw a party or preparing for Christmas dinner. One of the main concerns when hosting Christmas dinner or a holiday party is the food. Not only do you have to think of a menu for the big day but you also have to take into consideration your guests. Does any of them have any food allergies, are they vegan, are they diabetic, does their religious beliefs play a part in what they can and can't eat? These are things you need to find out because the last thing you want is for someone to eat gravy and their entire face gets swollen or worse yet they get difficulty breathing only to discover that there's peanuts or something in the gravy, which they are allergic to. Here's a few tips to help you accommodate friends and family with diet restrictions during the holidays.
I can understand that you're extremely busy during the holidays and the last thing you want is to be obsessing over what your guests will eat but it's safer in the long run to do so and you'll also get hostess of the year bragging rights, and who doesn't want that?
  1. Vegans can't eat anything with meat or dairy and Muslims can't eat pork so find out from your guests if they will be bringing their own meals or if you can go ahead and make something for them.
  2. If you offer to accommodate your guest’s dietary needs, you need to know what food items and ingredients need to be avoided. Create separate dishes for the guests your trying to accommodate.
  3. Find out from your guests, especially the ones with the food allergies what you should do in case they end up eating something they are allergic to. Do they have medicine they need to take or do you need to get them to the hospital? Be prepared to deal with anything.
  4. Remember to use different serving utensils so you won't get meat in the vegans food or peanuts in Diane's food who just happens to be severely allergic to it.
  5. Keep track of your ingredients. This step is important because you need to be able to tell your guests what dishes have which ingredients and which are off limits to them.
  6. Last but not least, just have fun. Relax and enjoy the time you are spending with your friends and family. Count your blessings.

Are you hosting a Christmas party this year? Or do you or someone you know have diet restrictions to work around?
